Leaving the coastline behind, the road climbs into the mountains above the Bay of Kotor. The famous serpentine curves lift you steadily toward Lovćen, where the air turns clearer and the views open wide — a quiet transition from sea level to the high country that shaped Montenegro’s identity.

We begin in Lovćen National Park with a visit to the Mausoleum of Petar II Petrović Njegoš — poet, philosopher, and national leader whose legacy sits at the heart of Montenegro’s cultural memory. The ascent of 461 steps leads into a monumental stone interior, followed by a panoramic platform with one of the most striking viewpoints in the region — coast, inland valleys, and distant mountain ranges laid out in a single sweep.

From Lovćen, we descend toward Cetinje, Montenegro’s historic royal capital. Elegant 19th-century residences, former embassies, monasteries, and museums preserve the atmosphere of a time when this small mountain town was a diplomatic crossroads. As we walk through the centre, the story of “Old Montenegro” becomes tangible — calm streets, layered history, and a pace that feels distinct from the coast. There is time for a short coffee or refreshment along the way.

The day continues to Njeguši, birthplace of the Petrović dynasty and home to Montenegro’s best-known mountain flavors. Here we sit down for a traditional lunch — a relaxed, generous meal built around local products and regional specialties, with the character of the mountains felt not only in the scenery, but on the table.
To finish the day in a smooth and scenic way, we return toward the bay via the Kotor–Lovćen Cable Car, descending from the mountain back toward the coastline before the final drive to your hotel.
