Slow travel through Western Serbia – Food, People, Festivals, Attractions

Slow travel through Western Serbia – Food, People, Festivals, AttractionsUpon arriving at the airport, guests have organized transportation or a rental car and continue to the Gostilj ethno village, located below Divčibare near Kosjerić, where the hosts welcome them and the slower rhythm of the trip begins.

The first day is easygoing and dedicated to visiting Kosjerić, getting to know local life, the people, and traditional food while the following days are planned together as new destinations and activities are selected.

Each day, guests can choose between mountain tours on Zlatibor and Tara, activities on the Drina River, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, quad adventures, or relaxed local excursions.

The program is flexible, lighter and more active days are combined, and every trip is adapted to the group, its pace, and its interests, with continuous guidance from the hosts.

Slow travel through Western Serbia (10 – days pick & choose itinerary)

Day 1 Kosjeric and the Local Area (easy start)

After a shared breakfast at Gostoljublje, the first day stays close to the base. The idea is to start slowly and meet the local people and everyday life.
During the day we visit the Kajsija cheese workshop, the Zaric distillery, and a local watermill (Potocari) to see how flour was made and how it is still used today. We take short pauses in nature, and lunch is organized in a local household or a calm rural setting. The afternoon is reserved for an easy return to the base.
In the evening, we gather again at Gostoljublje, often outdoors, with time to talk and plan the next day.

Day 2 Zlakusa: crafts, tradition, and a full local day

After breakfast we go to Zlakusa, a village known for its pottery tradition.
We start with traditional pottery (grncarija)—how it is made, how it is used, and why it is important in everyday cooking. Those who want can try a simple hands-on part of the process. After that, we add a cultural layer: traditional costumes (narodne nosnje) and a relaxed photo moment, without any protocol.
The day continues with a visit to a cave, and then we slow down again at a fishpond area below, where lunch and breaks feel natural and quiet. On the way back, we include a short stop with a local host for a small tasting, then return to Gostoljublje.

Day 3 Uzice by local train: market, history, and local food

This day begins with breakfast and a different rhythm: we go to Uzice by local train.
In Uzice, we start at the local market (pijaca)—not as a tourist stop, but as a place where people buy food and talk. Guests taste local specialties, see ingredients, and meet people behind the stalls.
We continue with a walk through the town and its story: the old fortress, then the historic hydroelectric power plant, and time in the center to experience the city in a simple, local way. Lunch is organized in a local kafana where guests can try typical regional dishes. In the afternoon, we return to the base.

Day 4 Traditional Festivals in Western and Central Serbia

Local Event / Festival Day (based on the calendar)

After breakfast, we choose one nearby town or area where something is happening that day: a local festival, food event, or cultural gathering.
This day is connected to your events calendar page—guests can see what is happening during their stay and decide what fits best. The focus is always on local food, people, and atmosphere. Return to the base is planned without rushing.

Day 5 Zlatibor: Sirogojno, Stopica Cave, market, gondola

After breakfast we go to Zlatibor.
The day includes the Open-Air Museum “Staro selo Sirogojno”, then the Stopica Cave, followed by time at the large market where guests can see local products and regional food culture. We include the gondola ride and viewpoints, keeping enough time for pauses and walking.
In the late afternoon, we return to Gostoljublje.

Day 6 Active Day in Western Serbia(choice)

After breakfast, guests choose an active day option (based on interest and weather): hiking, bikes, horses, or a vehicle-based option (quad/jeep). Lunch is in a local household setting. The goal is a nature day that fits the group’s energy.

Day 7 Mokra Gora, Tara and Kremna – Mountain Nature and Challenges

After breakfast, we take a full-day mountain route.
We start with Mokra Gora and the historic train experience (Sarganska osmica), then continue with Drvengrad. We include the Kremna area (stories and local context), and then move into Tara Mountain for viewpoints and nature stops.
This is a longer day, but with a calm pace and enough breaks. Return to base in the evening

Day 8 Drina River and Lake Perućac: Water Experiences in Western Serbia

Bajina Basta + Drina / Perucac (water day)

After breakfast, we go toward Bajina Basta and the Drina / Perucac area.
Depending on conditions and group preference, the day focuses on being near the water—boat ride or calm river/lake time—with lunch by the river. This is a slower day, built around scenery, pauses, and simple local food.

Day 9 Ovčar–Kablar Gorge: Monasteries, Nature and Slow Pace

Ovcar–Kablar (calm day)

After breakfast, we go to Ovcar–Kablar.
The day includes monasteries, a gentle walk, and time in the spa (Ovcar Banja). The pace is slow, designed for balance and recovery, with a simple shared meal during the day.
Return to base in the afternoon.

10 Tara, Uvac and Višegrad: The Wild Borderlands of Western Serbia

Example of a More Demanding Day

This day is presented as an example of a more demanding day within the stay and is intentionally placed last in the program overview. Its purpose is to show that, in addition to lighter and moderately active days, there are also days that require more time, energy, and additional organization.
Such days are planned separately, as they usually involve a full day of activities, longer program duration, and, if necessary, an overnight stay outside the main accommodation.
Although shown as the last day, this day does not have to be the final day in the actual itinerary, but is scheduled where it best fits the overall plan, group dynamics, and available time.
